Changes to SNAP Regulations

16 Jan

January 15, 2018

To All Operators Authorized to sell under SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program):

The USDA recently revised some of its rules enforcing SNAP.  Those new rules can be found at 7 CFR Parts 271 and 278 (attached here), and become effective as of January 17, 2018.

Although the new rules do not specifically define what food products are eligible to be sold under the SNAP program, they do address the new eligibility requirements for retailers authorized to sell under the SNAP program

We strongly encourage you to please review (or seek counseling) in reviewing these new rules to determine whether your specific location remains eligible to sell under the SNAP program.

Along with the comments addressing the new rules on whether a retailer can be authorized to sell under SNAP, are comments that the USDA would likely not support the selling of our raw chicken products to be later fried by the retailer after purchase (also known as “You Buy, We Fry”).

Due to these comments, Krispy Krunchy® will no longer support the sale of its raw chicken to be later fried by the retailer, as an authorized SNAP purchase.  Please remove all Krispy Krunchy® graphics about the “You Buy, We Fry” program

However, given the same USDA comments, Krispy Krunchy® supports the selling through the SNAP program, our cooked chicken that has been placed in our grab-and-go microwavable bags and sold out of coolers, for consumers to heat and consume at home.

We really appreciate your business and look forward to working with you in 2018 and beyond!
